I used to run Insteon switches, and one of my favorite features was that turning the switch ‘On’ would set it to a predefined value regardless of if the dimmer had been used to adjust the brightness. E.g. if you set the "on level’ to ‘80%’, hitting the top of the switch once would always set the value to 80%.
I’ve noticed most Z-Wave switches, when you hit the top, it will just return it to the last dimmed value.
There are many times I want to adjust brightness manually at night, but when I wake up in the morning, I want to turn it on to 90%.
Is there any way to do this with the Inovelli Red Series Dimmers?
@jrsquared - There’s an option in Hubitat to turn back on at a certain percentage or last setting. See attached photo. I’m sure Rule machine can help with time based events
1 tap last value
2 tap predefined for night 20%
3 tap predefined for morning 90%
Yeah, you can totally do this depending on the controller you have. @harjms is the resident pro at Hubitat, so he can likely help you there.
With SmartThings (and likely Hubitat since the driver is similar), there’s a setting in the device handler to set the default local control level. From there, you can select certain times that you want this to run (ie: local level defaults to 20% between the hours of 10pm and 6am, and 100% between the hours of 6am to 10pm).
Or, you can do as @simriv123 says and create a Z-Wave Scene where you press a certain button to set your favorite level during certain times.
Either way, we can help – let us know what controller you’re using and hopefully someone can pitch in!
Fascinating. Thank you all. I use Home Assistant. Does this setting actually get set on the device itself?
