I’m trying to replace the dimmer switch in my kitchen that controls the under-cabinet lighting. The lighting consists of LED strips that are powered by a transformer. I purchased the Blue Series dimmer, but I feel like I may have the wrong switch.
My current dimmer has Hot, Neutral, and Ground from the line in. There is also a separate line, where a red wire and a blue wire from the dimmer connect. I’ve wired up plugs and switches before, but I haven’t seen something like this.
Is the Blue Series right for this configuration? Should I have purchased a different dimmer?
You’re correct that the Inovelli dimmer will not work for the switch you are replacing. The switch you are replacing has a 12 volt DC output. It is essentially a dimmer switch and driver (transformer) combined. Unfortunately, Inovelli does not make a comparable switch.
I have that same kind of switch. I haven’t dealt with that switch yet, but I found a different transformer that will fit in an electrical box.
And I think i can add a Shelly to control it remotely (again, in the box):
I don’t think there will be enough room for an actual switch though after that, so it’ll probably be remote controlled only. If it will fit, you could use a standard toggle switch to at least turn it on and off:
