A feature request/idea? If you’re using a Non-Neutral Wire installation and Smart Bulb Mode, wouldn’t that mean the Switch has access to power 24/7? If so then is there any reason to need something like a bypass?
Generally speaking you will need a bypass with a smart bulb or LED bulb due to non-neutral wattage requirements. Smart bulbs with a non-neutral tend to be problematic.
Fantastic to see how well the Apple integration is going! For the beta testing, how is it going with Google Home integration (or other matter integrations, for those following)?
New to Inovelli and have already pre-ordered a White 2-1 Switch. How will a 3-way work with multiple smart switches (Whites)? The current (in progress) wiring documentation shows that the second smart switch is simply powered via Line and has no direct electrical control over the load. I guess this is how the Blue series works, where you have to do some Zigbee magic to get them to talk to one another?
With Thread/Matter, I assume this isn’t a thing. Will multiple smart switches for a 3-way or 4-way still be supported? I wouldn’t mind using Aux switches, but I’d hate to lose the LED indicators and to have a visual reminder that some switches are “lesser” than others.
Oh man I’m so excited about this. I’m about to move into a new home, and as soon as it closes, I’m preordering a pile of these. Time to upgrade from red to white!
I’ve been doing a lot of background research getting ready to start switching my house over to a smart ecosystem and these switches look like they will be amazing. Any idea when more pre-ordering/ordering will open up? It looks like everything is sold out for the white series.
The instructions are easy to follow. I can’t say the steps are simple, but at least they’re easy to follow. I appreciate that all the mode changes and configuration can be done on the device directly – that’s much nicer than needing to download a proprietary manufacturer app that some devices require.
Do we have estimate of when the White pre-orders will ship?
I’m trying to plan some electrician work, would be great if I could lump in the install of my 10 pre-ordered switches.
Eric,
Good Morning. I just placed a pre-order order for a 10 pack of:
Smart 2-1 Switch (On/Off or Dimmer) × 1 10 Pack / New / White
$425.00
I am so excited to get them. I close on a new house on 1/18/2024 and am excited to set it up as an Apple Home with Mater over Thread technology throughout.
I would love to become a Beta Tester for this and future projects. I have a Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering and a Masters in Engineering and love technology. I would love to provide input into your projects.
Thank you for your consideration in this Matter (pun intended)

Anybody own Kasa smart switches and a blue series switch?
Since this is based on the same hardware as the blue series it should be the same size as the blue series?
I’m not sure if the blue series would fit in my current gang boxes.
I have Kasa smart switches and they barely fit now.
I did not realize how big the blue series was until I watched unboxing videos.
Hoping someone has both and can do a side by side comparison.
I was planning on preordering ten if they will fit.
Very cool to see this on pre-order! Ordered one for myself. I’ve been looking for a Matter over Thread dimmer.
A couple thoughts/clarifications off the top of my head:
- I expect the feature set of this version to be limited by the Matter spec. Even “simple” things like power reporting aren’t supported yet and I have no idea if configuration parameters are supported at all. I would guess config settings will have to be done solely by the config button.
- Some platforms like SmartThings and HomeKit DO support power meter via Matter over Thread. not sure how homekit does it, but for SmartThings you can look at their public github for the special handling for Eve in the Matter Switch Edge driver.
- You may want to update the compatible hubs on the site. Looks like the Blue series hubs were copied, but it’s not the same since several of these don’t have Thread radios and you could also add some like the Echo 4th gen. Might even need to get more detail like “compatible with SmartThings V3, Aeotec and Station, but not V2”.
I’m late to the party, but would love to be a beta tester if you need more. I have existing smart devices, but have been migrating towards thread devices over the last 6 months but haven’t changed any switches because of limitations like single pole or non-dimming. I have previously tested for Logitech and Rachio.
Project Update:
We’ve received V2 of the firmware and are in the process of testing it out. We should receive V3 once the manufacturer is back from Chinese New Year which is around the 18th.
I’m very pleased with how this switch is performing thus far and V3 will have some really cool features that will make it a lot easier to use on Apple’s platform. One of those being a separate endpoint for the LED Bar so you can set notifications based on events (ie: garage door is left open, LED Bar turns Red). In addition, we are working towards a better user experience for Apple Home in that some of the parameters will show up in the app (this is a challenge because Matter is so new and we’re building it as it’s being released). We opted to take a bit longer on the firmware to get this right rather than having to recommend all these workarounds.
Special shoutout to @jvm33 for his Matter knowledge and helping us out with this. The power of the community is amazing and what allows us to work through a lot of these challenges.
That’s fantastic, thanks for the update!
Thanks for the update Eric. I’ll be pre-ordering 20 of the White switches for Matter/thread. I have a few 3 way setups. Can you tell me the if the new White switch will work with other smart switches that retain the built in LED light or do I purchase your AUX White switches to work with a 3 way setup? Thx!
Hey, everyone… I’m building a house right not (move in date: Aug) and I’m planning on setting up a smart home. The White 2-1 switches seem intriguing because we are an Apple family. But I’m confused about a few things:
-
After adding these switches to HomeKit, will I also be able to add them to Home Assistant? This seems to be a feature of Thread devices.
-
I see the tutorials where you can set up actions in HomeKit for single and double taps and press and hold. Is that the max number of taps these switches will support? Or will I be able to create more actions for triple trips and beyond in Home Assistant or by some other means?
-
The demos show how you can control smart bulbs through taps in HomeKit, but what about controlling other White switches? So for example, if I tap Switch 1 on, it turns on the smart lights for Switch 1, but it also turns on Switch 2, which turns on some dumb bulbs.
-
I have a bunch of Hue lights currently, but I’m willing to switch. Since Hue lights are zigbee, I don’t think I’ll be able to “bind” the bulbs to the switches, is that right? If I moved to a Thread-based smart bulb, like the Nanoleaf Essentials Matter, would I be able to bind the bulbs to the switches? (They don’t play well with HomeKit, though.)
@Eric_Inovelli , we are nearing completion of this home in Seattle (August), and I’m planning on fully outfitting it with Inovelli White switches. I would love to work with you to make it happen and would be happy for you or your crew to check it out, or film there, or test or whatever. Or, I’d be happy to simply provide feedback on what’s working or not.
I’m currently testing the white series and they work great with Hue lights if you connect Hue to HomeKit.
Hi, any chance you are testing more than one White Dimmer switch using Apple Home? With my current setup, the dimmers that I’m using which are connected to Apple Home will turn on multiple lights/dimmers within one room at the same time if I ask Siri to do so. Can you confirm that the new switch will turn on more than one simultaneously or do they turn on in staggered fashion? Thx!
Project Update: No real update to post other than we’re waiting for the next iteration of firmware which I believe should arrive in early March (but I’ll find out for sure tonight).
