Have the new Blue On/Off switch (VZM30-SN) on the way and plan to use in a AC fan with the blue fan canopy (VZM36). My hub is hubitat. The fan is on a ~10’ ceiling so wanted the option to airgap the switch as opposed to going down to basement to flip break if for some reason the canopy needed a power reset. Looking at prior posts on the topic, the blue on/off switch does not need to have the load wire input into the line side of the switch which is required for the fan switch and dimmer switch (both blue).
I want to have the paddle dim the lights and the confiq button control fan speed. Assume this is possible as the blue on/off essentially a button controller and the fan canopy controls the lights and fan (same process on instructions for the blue dimmer and fan switch).
I’m going to bind the blue canopy to the blue on off switch, but the instructions to do so only note this for the blue fan and dimmer (2-1 switch). The link does note any blue switch will work, I’m curious if the folks at inovelli or someone who has binded to the on/off switch can give some insight on the zigbee binding options.
There seems to be 2 options for zigbee binding. option 2 requires firmware 2.17 or greater on the 2-1 or 1.04 or above on the fan switch. I’d prefer option 2 for my set up, but there is nothing listed about firmware on the On/Off switch, see 1.03 on the inovelli site.
Zigbee Binding + Multi-Tap Scene Control
Dual Zigbee Bindings
link for zigbee binding process for hubitat. Any feedback/experiences welcomed- thanks
I have this set up like this in 2 different rooms, with a VZM30-SN and a VZM36 using Dual Zigbee Bindings. You can still use the multi tap settings to trigger automations, but that way you don’t NEED to use automations to control either the fan or lights. The switch works essentially the same as the dimmer when bound to the canopy module.
You would bind EP2 on the switch (paddle) to EP1 on the canopy module (light) and EP3 on the switch (config button) to EP2 on the canopy module (fan). You also want to set the FanControlMode on the switch to either Multi Tap (1 tap for low, 2 for medium, 3 for high, hold for off) or Cycle, while setting the switch to Smart Bulb Mode so the contactor doesn’t click every time you turn the lights on.
I don’t use Hubitat, but rather Home Assistant with Z2M, but here is what my bindings look like for my VZM30-SN if it helps.
Out of curiosity, what’s the usual internal temperature on the on off vzm30-an for you? Mine his 98-102, which is well within specs. I ask since I have a few of the 2-1s vzm31 that are usually 89-92. I do have the on off switch in smart bulb mode so not sure if that matters.
wondering if these on offs run a bit hotter. Saw posts the mm versions do
Of the 8 VZM30-SN switches I have, they vary between 31° and 38° C, or about 88° to about 100°F, depending on their location. The ones on exterior, insulated walls are the higher temp ones (36 and 38) , while most are around 33°C (91°F).
