Any updates? Any thoughts on meeting the July timeline?
They do indeed look great! Appearance wise, they certainly appear as though no one will ever be able to tell theyāre from a different manufacturer.
One question thatās nagging me, thoughāand you mentioned feel of the switch in that post, tooāis: do they feel identical to the other switches? When first adding a few Aux switches, the tactile difference between the switches for up/down presses is quite noticable to me. The Blue 2-1 are a bit more clicky & solid while the Aux are a bit more hollow feeling. (My current Aux switches are in infrequently used locations, so itās only a minor irritant & mostly more me being a bit of a perfectionist.). Hopefully these feel identical to the Blue 2-1.
Looking forward to these shipping! Thanks for all the updates & transparency.
Apparently I need to set priority notifications for my email, but there was another update sent to IGG recently: mmWave Smart Switch with Presence Sensing Radar | Indiegogo
@Eric_Inovelli Thank you again for pushing through on these. I wish that everything could be fixed in software/firmware, but sometimes you just need a magnet.
Still looking forward to updates, even if the timeline keeps getting pushed back, it does sound like youāre coming closer to the finish line!
Is there any information on whether the red or blue series will ship first?
Iām building new residential construction and trying to decide between red and blue. I know folks have their preference, but it mostly seems based on what they decided to standardize on years ago, not on any technical differences.
Recently I saw some advice to use a mix as a way of extending their mesh networks across a whole house. So maybe I should pick one series for my presence switches, and the other for the regular 2/1 dimmers?
Since zigbee dominates the smart bulb/fixture arena, Blue has the advantage of being able to bind to those loads. Aside from personal preference, thatās the main significant difference.
I ordered half of each, since these are also very good repeaters, and I have both Z-Wave and Zigbee devices through the house.
Bonus with Z-Wave is the support for Long Range, so technically, if you are getting all Z-Wave long-range devices, no repeaters would be required for that standard.
My plan is to use the reds whenever itās a single switch or without smart bulbs (Philips hue), a blue whenever multiple switches control the same lights as well as with smart bulbs. This is because zigbee binding and grouping is much better than Z-Wave associations.
I also ordered 4 Blues, because I have a smart ceiling light (Aqara T1M) in each of my bedrooms and Iāll bind them via Zigbee. Everything else is Reds (or Zooz), because Z-Wave is better for:
- avoiding interference from WiFi/microwaves (2.4Ghz), as well as
- longer range with sub-Ghz frequencies being used.
If I didnāt have the Ceiling lights and they were all dumb lights, I would be Z-Wave all the way.
There are even some Z-Wave smart bulbs by Sengled Iām going to be ordering to replace the pull-chain lights in my basement (though I have to order a pack of 8 to get a decent per-unit cost): https://www.bestbuy.com/site/sengled-zwave-8-7w-a19-led-light-bulb-white/6517369.p?skuId=6517369 but since I donāt need fancy LEDs or motion sensing in my basement stairway, Iāll likely be getting a Zooz Z-Wave switch for that and associating them all together.
In my opinion, the biggest reason to consider Zigbee over Z-Wave is the amount of associations you can do with Zigbee over Z-Wave. For example, we have inovelli blue switches controlling philips hue light bulbs. I use Zigbee Binding, so itās a direct connection between the switch and bulb(s). With zigbee, there isnāt really a device limitation for Binding. With Z-Wave, they call their direct connection Z-Wave Associations, and you can only have 5 devices max.
So, in my experience, the biggest reason to go with Zigbee is for smart bulb control IF that is something you may do eventually. We have philips hue smart bulbs in every room now, and the use of z-wave devices to control them is annoying. Iām waiting on the presence switches to install in their place so I have better control.
Thatās a good point to consider. I have avoided smart bulbs in favor of smart switches thus far, except for the Aqara T1M ceiling lights I just got. They are also the reason I ordered some blues, as my wife and I will want to be able to turn them on and off even if the hub is down.
I hadnāt realized there was a limitation on Z-Wave associations, but since there wonāt be more than 2 bulbs and a load controlled by the one in the basement, should be fine for me. I canāt imagine needing to bind a switch to more than 5 lights personally, but I can see some use cases where that might be desired.
But if you really want to control a bakerās dozen smart bulbs directly, you certainly can with Zigbee.
Hello! Itās been a bit since the last update - which mentioned September as being the start of production. @Eric_Inovelli - any updates here? Are we on track?
Iām curious as well what the status is. Not much news lately.
Same. I was anticipating having these switches quite a while back, and have since just added mmWave sensors near them to do what I wanted to do.
It would be cleaner to have them in the switch, so Iād still look forward to finally receiving these and using them, but Iām kind of tired of waiting. I hate to ask, but is there a process for requesting a refund from the Indiegogo on this? I put down for 5 and am not planning on trying to refund them just yet, but it would be good to know my options in case this continues to slip.
Eric, could you please post an update? I ordered 25, Iām okay waiting a bit longer and install simple swiches for the time being, but Iād like to know what current estimated delivery date is.
PS: sorry for the confusing username. It was taking from the email address I signed up with, I cannot change it as far as I can tell.
DMād you.
On last weekās WAN Show podcast, LinusTechTips said they were expecting a review sample imminently. Probably for the red series z-wave version, but I assume that the blue series progress almost always mirrors or surpasses red series given the higher degree of availability.
Hard to say for certain if LTT knows more than us, especially if they are under any sort of NDA or review embargo, but Iām guessing/hoping inovelli is so close to launching this product that theyāre holding off on the next update because there isnāt much left to announce other than the official launch.
I am hoping for an update soon too. I have 25 on order and my new home build is getting closer to needing them. Luckily my fan switches and blue 2in-1s have already shipped.
Would be really nice to get some more specifics about zones and the nature of the presence detection reporting / configuration. Early in the thread things seemed hopeful to have good capabilities for excluding the ceiling, the floor, corners, etc. there was also discussion about the possibility of the sensor reporting range in addition to which 2D zone the motion is in.
However, more recent messages seemed to have more uncertainty and be less committed to these things. The ability to know where in the frame and at what distance the motion is detected and/or to be able to exclude sections of the frame is a deal breaker for me and itād be nice to get some concrete details about it before itās too late to cancel my order
I think you need to reach out to them here, probably via dm to Eric or another staff member. Per the original indiegogo confirmation indiegogo isnāt doing refunds past April 30 of 2023:
āAny refunds after this date are the responsibility of the campaign owner, Inovelli , at their discretion.ā
Jumping on the bandwagonā¦ Hoping for an update - How close are we?
