I just installed one of these switches with a newly installed Broan exhaust fan (https://www.homedepot.com/p/Broan-NuTone-Roomside-Series-White-50-CFM-No-Cut-Roomside-Installation-Bathroom-Fan-with-Light-ENERGY-STAR-Bathroom-Exhaust-Fan-BENL5/329778011), and am experiencing the reported issue. This switch is only controlling the fan, the light is on a dumb switch temporarily until my presence sensing switch arrives.
When I added the switch to Home Assistant (Zigbee2MQTT), it mentioned that there was a firmware update and I installed it right away. Currently if I manually check the version I get:
[12/13/2025, 7:49:36 PM] zhc:tz: Read result of 'genBasic': {"swBuildId":"1.02"}
Though in the UI it said the firmware version was 1.01 for a while, and now says āunknownā. The on-device firmware indication though agrees that itās 1.02. The OTA tab says the firmware build date is 20251017 and that there is not a new version available.
Unfortunately, when I turn the fan off the switch loses power and needs reset with the air gap. So despite apparently being on the new firmware version, Iām experiencing the issue it was supposed to address. If I disconnect the load, the switch behaves correctly. I notice that when I do have the load connected and turn it off, the relay clicks and the LED bar remains illuminated for a second before turning off completely.
I am slightly worried that there was an issue installing the firmware, the first time I noticed it lose power was while the firmware was updating and I thought at first it was just not responding because it was still installing. But eventually I realized it was totally depowered and reset it. Is it possible that there was a firmware installation error that results in it thinking the version is 1.02 when itās not?
Do I need to try to downgrade and re-apply the update? I donāt see a v1.01 firmware file as available anywhere and Z2Q says INVALID_IMAGE if I just send it the command to downgrade.
