I think it would be really neat if all of the devices with current monitors in them (all of them?) could be configured to have a sensor/entity that would report a bulb failure.
There are lots of situations where you might not notice a single lamp out in a multi bulb fixture (or even a single bulb depending on where the light is located!)
I’d imagine it would be disabled by default and I can think of two ways of making this work and I’m not entirely sure which is better.
Have a parameter called “Bulb out detection” (or whatever) and either ask the user to enter how many lightbulbs are being driven by this device, or ask for a percentage change allowed before a “bulb out” is triggered. The former is easier, but it also requires all of the bulbs in a fixture to consume the same (or nearly the same) wattage. This is likely not a problem for most but I can see edge cases where it might be wrong. You could likely do one of those combined config parameters where setting the parameter to 0-99 would be bulb count and 100-199 would be percentage from 0-99.
Once the parameter is enabled (or whenever the maximum dim level is adjusted) have the switch wait some number of seconds after the device goes to 100% brightness and record that amount of power usage as the baseline.
If we’re in percentage mode simply trigger the “Failed” sensor if the 100% power usage is under that preset percentage
If we’re in “counting bulbs” mode you’d work some fudge factor in (20%? 25%? to avoid false positives) and do something like Lower Limit = BaseLinePowerConsumption-(BaseLinePowerConsumption/BulbCount*0.8)
Go below that threshold for X seconds when the bulb is at 100% and trigger the alarm.
You’d need a reset just like there is a reset accumulated values for the energy monitor.
Seems a pretty neat trick to know when an ourdoor garage light (or any light) isn’t working.
