Which series of devices has firmware that SmartThings can update via OTA?
I am not familiar with the white series. Definitely not the Gen 2 or Gen 3 reds or blues.
Thanks. I know SmartThings is de-prioritizing Z-wave, but is the lack of OTA firmware upgrades via Zigbee an Inovelli thing or a SmartThings thing?

I think it’s a Samsung thing, somehow. It not like they don’t do any firmware updates. I haven’t paid close attention, but I think it’s just their stuff that qualifies.
Are you saying they don’t allow any third-party OTAs for Zigbee, or what? OTAs work for Matter over SmartThings…

I wouldn’t say that they don’t allow it. My suspicion is there are some hoops that have to be jumped through to allow for OTA. I have some ADT-branded ie non-Samsung leak sensors (made by Nortek) that appear to allow for OTA. (The information page displays that the firmware is up to date.)

I’m trying to nail down the difference between “Samsung doesn’t make it easy” vs. “Samsung doesn’t make it possible.”
If it’s the former, it’s fair to push for putting the effort in. Especially if Inovelli has the opportunity to move up-market into builder markets, and things like OTAs are less “nice to have” and more critically strategic.
@SlamDonk It is kind of a mixture or those two. Matter they have the backend all developed and currently working for it. We just have to get the update certified through the CSA and then coordinate with ST to release it. We have done a few releases with them for White series. Z-wave I don’t think will happen, but I could be wrong. Zigbee OTA is possible, but they are very selective on what gets released. Believe me though, it is something we have been trying to iron out for some time. I will check again with them, but the feeling I got last (a few months ago) was that if there was a critical issue they would work with us to release an update, but it wasn’t something we could do frequently.
Thanks for the insight! Did they give you the impression (explicitly or otherwise) that Zigbee wasn’t a focus area for them anymore? It seems wild that Matter has all the scaffolding in place for a trivial OTA but not the much more mature Zigbee standard
I think they are still very focused on supporting Zigbee. I feel they are very invested in helping their partners over various protocols, but Z-wave has taken a little bit of a hit with the exclusion of it in their latest hub. I still think Zigbee is a priority though.
