Inovelli LZW30-SN Firmware Update Issue

Hey all,

I’m looking for some advice when it comes to updating my LZW30-SN switch. I’m using Zwave2MQTT. When I attempt to run a firmware update on the switch it freezes and fails to update but comes back to life on a power cycle.

I’ve tried the trick of starting the firmware update then powering the switch right after which gets me a little further the switch starts updating but freezes a few seconds later.

The switch never freezes except for when attempting a firmware update.

This is the only Red Series On/Off switch I have however I have multiple Red Series Dimmers which all update using the same process without issue.

I’ve also tried resetting the switch and including it again.

Current it’s on firmware version 1.9.

Any advice on how to get the switch updated would be appreciated.

I’d pop your Zwave dongle into a PC and download SILabs PC Controller. Flashing with their utility is reliable and quick. You’ll have to exclude from HA and then add it back.

Which firmware are you trying to flash? 1.19 is a beta firmware. If you can’t go right to 1.22, maybe try 1.20 first. (For some reason, 1.20 isn’t on Github.)

I’ve had this problem before and only managed to solve it by bringing the switch close enough to the zwave controller that it didn’t route through any repeaters. Once it’s updated, it worked fine back in its original location.
