Inovelli Red + Presence Sensor Dimmer Switch Accuracy and Sensitivity

I’m looking to maybe purchase this switch for the living room to integrate with HA so I can set up some automations related to the presence being detected and turn on/off lights accordingly.

I have two girls and the oldest has some gymnastics equipment about 3-4 feet in front of where the switch is. Is that a problem for accuracy? Oh, and how does it work with pets?

In general, how accurate or sensitive is this switch? It seems almost too good to be true to have it all in one switch instead of having to buy a switch and separate presence sensor like an Aqara FP2 or something

Room size matters a lot, for any medium to large rooms you will need multiple switches or separate motion sensors.

I have found in small bathrooms (without glass door showers) these thing work great on their own but in living rooms or bedrooms doing MOST of the the motion lighting roles on the hub tends to work better as you can factor in data from multiple sensors then.

Occlusions and the field of view of the switch end up meaning you will want to have several devices with different perspectives. For all but the simplest rooms.

The switch itself is highly configurable and setting the min/max ranges is an absolute must to have a good experience.

It detects pets very well. Which I suspect is not really what you are asking. You can adjust the “floor” of the device, so if you have small pets who mostly stay on the ground, that can help, but the device has no sense of target size, so pets will be detected just like people.

I’ve had good luck with mine in bedrooms (although not for detection while sleeping - I apparently don’t breathe heavy enough for that to work). And in my large open floor plan living/kitchen/dining I am still having to augment with separate presence sensors to catch blind spots and keep up with my lazy ass on the couch (again, apparently not breathing heavy enough). But for many of the rooms in the house, these things are all I need to detect presence and light level.

Yeah you got it! I wanted to know if I could detect my pet so I could exclude her from setting things off.

I’m just getting started with this and I think for where this sensor would go, it wouldn’t detect things properly and I may be better using something like an Aqara FP2 or something. I’ll just go with a normal Red switch for the two spots I want a new smart switch!

Thank you!
