Kill the auto-play music on your website

Dear Inovelli,

I know this might come across as rude, but please, please, kill the auto-play music when browsing different products on your homepage. It’s 2024, and nobody, and I mean nobody likes this stuff. It’s loud, annoying, and there is no way to lower it’s volume.

Sincerely,

Everyone.

I’m currently on the website with my volume up and I don’t hear any music?

I’ve never known us to have music on our website before, so I doubt we started it now. Could you be mistaking it with another website or app you have open?

No music playing here, either…

I’d suggest you set your browser to block audio from websites. You can then add exceptions for those where you might want the audio played.

Did you possibly hit the “play” button in the “jumbotron” section of the website? That’s a video with sound. But unless your browser is doing something funny, it shouldn’t play on its own…

[EDIT: Or at least it doesn’t play on its own in Firefox, which is what I looked at first. Safari and Chrome do appear to play it, just without sound — all likely dependent on your settings, mine being the default in all as far as I know.]

The root page i.e https://inovelli.com has a video (w/audio) as a background.

What you see/hear varies by brower/settings. In Firefox, if you have autoplay of audio and video turned off, you’ll see a black background. If you turn audio and video autoplay on, you get the video background and audio. The autoplay of videos with audio is blocked by default by Firefox. So if you are getting the video with audio, then go into settings and turn that back off. You can allow sites selectively even though you do so.

In Chrome, the video will play, but I do not get audio even though sites are set to allow audio. I don’t think there is an autoplay setting.

Edge will play the video by default, with no audio. If you’re getting audio, Edge may have tweaked the setting based upon interaction. You can autoplay off in settings.

If you’re on a Mac . . .

…the video plays without sound on Safari. (Just tested, not a Safari user.)

Huh, I’ve used Firefox for ever and it’s got the audio. Particularly in the product specific pages when I scroll down.

I can see now that there is a pause button, but it’s immediatly covered by the red icon upon scrolling down just a tiny bit more.

Firefox > Settings > Privacy and Security > Autoplay

This is the default.

I’ll have to ask Eric about it! I use Chrome and there definitely isn’t any audio in Chrome, so it must be browser specific. Either way, we’ll try to find a way to take it off.

I’ve never had audio play through Chrome on Windows 11. The video will auto play as part of the sites function, just like all sites with layouts like this (i.e. HPTuners) but audio is never on. You might have your settings set to auto play audio or something.

Yes, the home page (inovelli.com) music (electronic dance type music) is loud and sort of annoying. If it is removed, all browsers and settings will not hear it.I recommend removing it. I use Firefox with Win10.
