LZW-36 Intermitent

I’m struggling with one of the two LZW-36’s I installed. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. I think it’s getting good power at the fan module, but haven’t confirmed with a volt meter yet. Sometimes it turns off and on via switch buttons or via ST / Google Assistant fine… other times, it just completely ignores the commands from any source.

It seems every time I decide to check on the fan module and pull the canopy down, it works. I button it back up, and then it starts acting up again with no discernable pattern. Thoughts / Help please?

Edit: When it’s acting up, neither fan nor light control works. LED’s on switch module change like it’s trying to do something

See if you can route the canopy module’s antenna outside of the canopy cover. Pulling the canopy cover off and getting improved performance suggests a signal strength issue. Or leave the canopy cover dropped for a week or so to see if the improved performance continues.

Hey @angst - question for ya - do you know what firmware you have on the switch?

You can check this in IDE: https://support.inovelli.com/portal/en/kb/articles/how-to-find-your-device-info-for-troubleshooting-smartthings

Look for where it says, “Raw Data” and it should show the firmware version: 1.3x

It’s 1.31.

Ok, that may explain it. There was a bug in the 1.31 firmware: LZW36 Fan/Light Switch Canopy Module Disconnection Issues

What we can do is swap out that switch for you or if you have a Z-Stick, you can update the firmware via SmartThings by following these directions: https://support.inovelli.com/portal/en/kb/articles/how-to-update-device-firmware-z-wave-smartthings-secondary-controller-method

Whichever method you’d prefer is fine (it’s just the switch part, not the canopy) – just let us know and we’ll get it taken care of!
