LZW31-SN suddenly needing constant reset

Hi inovelli community,

Just wanted to check if anyone has had similar issues?

After running fine for about 5 years, one of my LZW31-SN started acting up last week. It’s exhibiting the following problems:

  • The recessed light (single recessed LED) attached to it strobes all the time
  • Switch drops out of the zwave network.
  • Sometimes, operating the switch locally doesn’t work, so the light can’t be turned off

The temporary fix is to reset and pull the air gap. It runs fine for 1-2 days and then dies again.

This switch survived a major electrical surge about 2 years ago (the same surge took out a lot of our appliances and most of my other inovelli switches at the time), so I’m wondering if something was damaged back then and it’s just been decaying over time. It’s also installed in a frequently-used bathroom, so it’s regularly subjected to high humidity.

I’ll swap it out soon, but mostly I’m just curious if this has happened to anyone else.

Hi there!

Just wanted to check in on this and see if you had any luck with swapping out that unit for another one? This does sound like your device is starting to go out, which unfortunately doesn’t leave us a lot to troubleshoot.

Please let me know your status on this and if you have any questions.

Thank you!

thanks for checking in @Kaleb_Inovelli .

I was hoping to replace with a zwave inovelli switch, but it’s OOS, so I had to go with another brand. Lights are working fine now.

I was mostly just curious if other similar cases have been reported, and if it was indeed the surge from 2 years ago which might have caused this or it may have been caused by something else.

I didn’t have your exact specific symptoms, but I’ve had several LZW-31SN switches fail in strange ways for no apparent reason, after years of working fine. It makes me glad that inovelli isn’t working with that manufacturer anymore.

Oh, I didn’t realize they changed manufacturers. Good to know!
