Nightmare z-ware associations between 2 VZW31-SN. Please Help

I have never had any troubles including and adding switches. (Hubitat c8-PRO)
Installed one vzw31 and included it. Setup to dimmer and all was good. Darling wife wanted it turned into 3-way. So I added 14/2 wiring to room and installed 2nd switch. while including I noticed it never asked for S2 code (not sure if that mattered).
Added associations for 2,3,4 for the 2 switches. and I have both switches powered and all physically looks good. but only the first switch actually operated lights.

I’m unsure why, At this point i’m close to just running a 14/3 and installing a dumb switch. But I figured I would give this one more shot today. So if anyone is around and has has experience with the same problem I would love to know what fixes it.

Did you use SmartStart to include it? If yes, did you pair it LR? If so, that’s why there was no DSK prompt – S2 is inherent to LR.

If paired traditional/manually, is it possible you mistakenly clicked the “No security” option instead of the “with security” (S2) option? I know I’ve come close to doing that in the past, so it’s understandably easy.

I will remove switch from Hubitat and re-include and try again. This is getting crazy. I’m right to the point where I need to finish dry walling. And I have to make this work today. Or run the 14/3 wire. (which I might just do if I don’t get it working.)

I’d run the 14/3. That way you won’t get slowed down. Nothing says you have to use the 3rd conductor.

So S2 is enabled on 2nd dimmer at this point. Same results. Re did the associations for 2,3,4 both ways). same results. FW is 1.02 in both switches.
-switches both set to dimmer
-set to smart Aux switches.

Fixed! pulled in 14/3 and wired a dumb switch in. works perfect!. Serves me right to trying to be too SMRT!
