Has anyone here installed the Philips Hue Slim downlight with blue series switches ? I’ll be out of town while a contractor installs 34 Philips Hue Slim lights along with some Inovelli Blue Series Smart Dimmers.
My question is whether the contractor will be able to test the switches and lights without me needing to configure them in Home Assistant.
The only test the contractor will be able to perform will be to ensure that the lights power up. You’ll have to show him the quick tap sequence to put the switch into the Smart Bulb Mode. The contractor will not be able to test turning the switches off or dimming, because those are binding or automation functions. He’ll have to pull the air gap to shut them off.
When I had my Hue downlights / Inovelli dimmers installed by a contractor last year, I just had them leave everything as-is out of the box. The dimmers default to on-off mode, so they’ll act as simple switches and just cut the power to the downlights to turn them off. Very easy to confirm that everything is working, and no need for the electrician to teach themselves about the peculiarities of the switches.
The only thing I had to specify as out-of-the-ordinary was the wiring of the 3-way setups. We’ve got smart switches at both ends, so only one of them gets wired to the load, and the other just gets power but does nothing until configured. (We still had the electrician run the traveller wiring so we have the option switch to dumb switches in the future.)
After we moved in, I configured everything properly with smart bulb mode and zigbee bindings.
