I was about to buy the Zigbee version of the Canopy Module + Switch Combo, but it seems to be out of stock without an estimate of when preorders would be fufilled. It got me thinking to look at the Thread version, but I’ve never actually used Thread and have some questions. I know that Zigbee binding allows me to have the light switch bypass my HA server to control the lights directly, but what about for Thread? Is it worth buying a thread router when I already have a Zigbee dongle since it seems Thread is the new hotness? Or am I better off waiting for the Zigbee version to come back in stock?
Purely my preference, but I would wait for Zigbee.
I feel that Matter over Thread just isn’t “there” yet in reliability and convenience… While some may disagree, this is only my opinion and they are entitled to theirs
Don’t trust that “out of stock” status on the ordering page. A few months back, I ordered some “out of stock” switches with no estimated “in stock” date. They were shipped the next business day.
I’m not implying that is what will always happen; just saying that the “out of stock” status cannot always be trusted.
Thanks guys, I just placed a back-order for the Zigbee version, seems like it’s better for me to stick to what I know. Hopefully it ships soon
