Personally the light bleed might be an issue, but I know that cameras always pickup more than whats there, but at the same time if we have the buttons change color, would it not bleed into the buttons around it, Say the end meeting is red, would it cause the buttons around it to become more purple than blue due to the light bleed from the red? If not then it might not be an issue.
In the last photo, is the End Meeting light a different color? If so, the cross bleed is less than I was worried, and that color bleeds a lot less. This as much seems that blue is too powerful.
I presume there is no lux sensor here? Cause it seems like if it dimmed in the dark, and got brighter in the light, the bleed would be a lot less noticeable.
How was the text and logos done? Laser? 3D printed?
Could you do green for āStart Meetingā, red for āEnd Meetingā, white for the camera, leave the microphone off, and get a pic of that? I think that would make it clearer in photos how bad the light bleed is.
What kind of added time would improving it add? If the delay is really long you may have enough people fine with the light bleed that do not want to wait for a version 1 run.
Do you think improving it could be done with a new button design, or would the switch itself need a redesign? AKA, could you go to production with what you have now and offer v2 buttons later that have less light bleed? I would probably start with individual numbered buttons until I land on what I want the switch to do, then order labeled ones later anyway.
I think light bleed around the buttons is fine so long as it is dimmer than the text and any bleed to a button with the light off is low enough you do not think it is on. Adding a thin diffuser layer to even out the bleed could even make it look like a design choice.
That amount of light bleed is a bit much for me and Iām aware that the camera is likely making it look worse than what the naked eye sees. If it was more universal around the buttons I could accept that but from the pictures it looks like the bottom button has 0% light bleed but the others all have it. Not sure it would keep me from buying it but it would affect how many and where I place them.
Hi there,
The light bleed should not cause the nearby buttons to appear as different colors, as the design underneath the paddle has dividers that prevent the LEDs from mixing.
Hi there,
Yes, the End Meeting light is a different color. And correct, there is not a lux sensor on the switch, however, the dimming when its dark is something that can be setup through automations to act a similar way. The text and logos were done via laser.
Hi there,
I will work on getting a picture of it set to the different colors like you suggested to get a different look at the light bleed. Regarding what the potential delay times would look like for improvements, itās hard to say at this time as those discussions would need to happen with the manufacturer, so I am unable to give a rough estimate.
For my part, Iām more concerned with actually getting and being able to use this product than I am with the light leakage - Iāve been waiting for this since you started beta testing the fan/light controllers.
No, the light leakage isnāt ideal, but to my mind itās not bad enough to be worth delaying the product further for - fix it with a revision 2.
That does not look bad at all. I would be happy with that. That looks better than expected
I would be fine with this, rather than having nothing!
I actually think the light leakage looks kinda cool, though maybe a bit odd if there are different colors on the different segments. Wouldnāt be a dealbreaker for me, but Iād probably still get a G2 with a fix if there ends up being one. ![]()
I would say this is borderline acceptable to me. If I had my preference, I would say, I would like a lot less bleed⦠BUT If you hadnāt asked, I would probably have purchased it anyways ![]()
So.. basically, it seems fine. The best possible, probably not, but probably fine for 99% of the people out there⦠end of the day, I want these ![]()
EDIT: Also, I would assume these backlight brightness can be adjusted - which could also help minimize the bleed
Iām so excited for this product! I currently have a single gang switch leading from my kitchen into the backyard, with no clearance to increase to 2+ gang. Iām currently having my deck redone and electrical ran out to my shed and this product will be perfect to have tactile control for all the lights in my backyard as iāll have the load the switch currently handles, plus 5 other light zones and a ceiling fan.
Still not sure if iāll do on/off toggle for each zone or maybe some scenes⦠fun fun fun
If getting zero bleed is a problem, and the design would allow, would it be easier to make the border of the switch intentionally lit?
If the border is lit on purpose, bleed around the edges would be imperceptable.
Hey all! Do we know if the preorders from 2021 are still being tracked somehow? I canāt find my order in their system anymore, since they switched backend systems a few years ago. I had my preorders in for Limitless back in the day. Thanks!!
Yeah, Eric mentioned they are being tracked and were moved internally to this product.
Probably a super dumb question at this point, but is there any information of what options will be available for the buttons in terms of etching? I see āStart Meetingā and āEnd Meetingā for example..
Thanks
Hi just to confirm, this is not like the blue dimmer which cannot have the fan load exposed to it. You can use this with the canopy with no bypass wiring?
I would expect the answer is no since this has dimming circuitry in it. But none of us have seen any beta units yet.
