I saw the other thread about the fan module not currently supporting reversing. I have 2 of the same model hunter fan that has no reverse switch or pull cords. They are 100% controlled by the fan module that came with them. I’m pretty sure to support reverse, the module internally swaps the hot and neutral lines since there are 3 wires going to the fan as shown in this module.
I’m not sure you have looked into creating a new module that supports this feature, but I’d be willing to purchase 2 matter enabled devices that support reversing remotely.
Simply swapping live and neutral won’t reverse a fan motor. I’ve looked into this and Hunter fans have a reversing module (example: the UC7067REVB) in the fan body that contains a SPDT relay and swaps which side of the motor coil is attached to the run capacitor. The relevant patent is US6211632B1, which says thus:
The detect circuit (14) is used to Sense the Signals sent out by the remote receiver (20), including an acknowledgement Signal periodically generated in normal condition and the received control Signal, which are Sent to the microprocessor (15) to activate the relay drive circuit (16).
The nature of the signal is not disclosed, but speculating based on another patent, I have a hunch it involves some proprietary modulation of the “live” waveform.
So, long story short, I’m betting that emulating a proprietary signalling scheme is out of scope.
Interesting. My fans are Hampton Bay and they don’t have such a fancy reversing system.
What model do you have, out of curiosity?
I’m not sure. They are around 10 years old. The remote control module looks exactly like I posted above, but orange case.
