Blue dimmer - on and off from config instead of paddles

I have a light that I want to toggle on and off with the config / favorites button rather than the up and down paddles of the blue dimmer it’s wired to. The up and down would trigger other scenes in the room with other devices. Anyone know if possible and how to set that up in HA?

Is the light wired up directly to the Load output on the switch? or is this a Smart Bulb type setup with an indirect load?

It is wired directly to the load output of the dimmer. Nj or a smart bulb.

The only thing I can think of is that you might be able to enable the “Local Protection Mode” parameter, which should stop the paddles from directly controlling the lights.

Everything would be dependent on automations then.

This is only a guess though as I haven’t tried it out.

EDIT: The only possible down side is that it may disable all inputs… again, I have never played around with it.

koadic is correct - disable Local Control (parameter 256), and set up hub automations to control ALL the desired lighting actions from the Blue.

I have one Blue set up this way - works fine as long as hub is running - that’s the big catch here. But LC can be re-enabled via the paddle if necessary.

And on that note, here’s the info to Enable/Disable from the switch if needed…

Enable Local Protection Mode

To enable Local Protection Mode (Parameter 256) on your Blue Series Dimmer Switch, hold down on the top part of the paddle (on) while simultaneously tapping the configuration button ten (10) times (do not let go of the paddle when finished tapping the config button). Wait for the LED Bar to flash solid green (and then let go of the paddle) indicating the switch has enabled Local Protection Mode.
