Blue Fan switch isn't recognized by driver in Hubitat

I just installed a Blue 2n1 (VZM31-SN) in hubitat and it worked great.
I am now trying to install a Blue Fan switch (VZM35-SN) in hubitat and the driver is not recognize the device.

Here is what I have done:

  • installed the driver Device Drivers • Hubitat | Inovelli Help Center (using the second link from the table - I used the first link from the table for the 2n1 switch and I already have the LZW31-SN) driver installed.
  • I went to add zigbee device in hubitat and started the zigbee pairing process in hubitat
  • I pressed the config button 3 times and the switch entered pairing mode
  • Hubitat recognized the zigbee device and I named the switch and put it in a room.

Then when I go to the newly added device it is a generic zigbee device. It is not recongized as an Inovelli switch.

I have repeated this process a couple of times with a switch factory reset in between each attempt. I have tried re-installing the driver as well.

any suggestions?

This isn’t terribly uncommon with Hubitat – sometimes the device fingerprint just doesn’t trigger the correct driver match for whatever reason.

I always assume this will happen every time I add a new device, so the first thing I always do after pairing it is check the driver (“Type”).

If the system’s initial pick was way off, I first change the driver to plain “Device” (that will be an option), and then use all of its available “Delete…” command options to clear the slate – that ensures all states etc are cleared out when I next change the driver to the correct/proper selection.

@hydro311 Thanks for the insight.
I was looking all over the hubitat UI to find where I could override the driver. When I looked at the “Type” field, it looked like it was just saying what type of generic device it was. I didn’t realize that all the loaded drivers were at the end of the list.

I changed it to the loaded fan driver and it now sort of works. On the preferences page I can see all of the options for the switch and I can change them successfully.

What I can’t do at this point is get notified of any of the button pushes. More debugging to go I guess. I will hop over to the hubitat forum and ask there what I should do.

I just wanted to give a final update for anyone who finds themselves in this same situation later.

As mentioned, if Hubitat doesn’t properly pick the correct driver, you can go into the “Device Info” tab and where it says “type”, you can scroll down and select the proper driver - all the generic ones are listed first, so you might have to scroll down quite far to get to your loaded drivers.

But there is a trick. From what I understand, if Hubitat automatically pairs the device with the correct driver, I think it automatically issues the “configure” command to the device and that gets it into the proper state. If you manually pair the device with the driver, it seems you have to run the configure command yourself.

Once, I issued the configure - all command on the “Commands” tab, things started working. Before issue the configure command, none of the button presses were being delivered to Hubitat.

At this point, I have the Blue Fan switch working 100% properly in Hubitat.

Now, if we could get a Homey Pro app for these switches, I could ditch hubitat.
