Blue Series 2-1 Switch Mode - buzzing

My NZW30 w/Scene finally stopped responding to zwave after my last power failure.

So I swapped it out for a Blue Series 2-1.

Now when I turn on my lights (LED) they are buzzing, it’s not loud but kinda annoying.

These are 6ft integrated LEDs, so not something that can be swapped out.

Anyone have any ideas?

Firmware is up-to-date 2.18, Switch Mode Enabled, it does have a neutral.

Switch mode set to on/off?

If you are configured as a 2-way, you can try configuring full sine wave to see if the LEDs like that better.

I am Multi-Way with Aux Switch.

I just configured to Single-Pole Full Wave (On/Off Only), and the lights are happy, no more buzzing.

I guess I dont understand why I can’t use a Aux Switch with this

Yeah I’m not sure but there has to be some design reason for why it’s limited to a 2-way. You can swap out the Aux switch for another Blue dimmer and then control the load switch with automations or binding.

If I remember it correctly from the Red 2-1 beta, they end up cutting off part of the waveform to be able to detect presses from the Aux switch. In 2 way mode they don’t need to do that.

So, I need another 2-1 switch? Do I have to bind them together or set up a rule in Hubitat? I’m guessing binding will respond faster? That’s super annoying, especially since my original Inovelli switch didn’t have this problem. Will using a dumb aux switch not work?

You may wish to wait for the under development Project Vernacular switch, which is being designed as a true relay-based on/off switch. The Vernacular switch is being designed to work with an Aux or a dumb switch.

You can do either. Theoretically binding is faster, but in practice you can try both to compare.

Keep in mind that you replaced an on/off switch with a dimmer. The Blue dimmer can masquerade as an on/off switch, but at it’s heart it’s a dimmer.

Settings-wise, that’s not an option. But when you use a dumb switch with the 2-1, it goes through a relay. So you might try that to see what the results are.

If you have or can find a Gen 2 LZW30, that might work as well. It’s a true on/off switch. I can’t say for certain that it will solve your problem, but if you have an one lying around, it’s worth trying.

This is good information. I have at least two more that need to be replaced, and I will run into the same issue. Over the years, I’ve had nothing but range or latency problems with Gen1 Inovelli Z-Wave switches. Other brand switches always worked unless they were in the same box. These Blue Series switches have worked the best so far, so I am excited to get these last switches swapped out. I would prefer to avoid using the Red Series since they are Z-Wave, but I’ll see if I can find one online to hold me over.

Great. I can’t guarantee the Gen 2 switch will work, but it’s worth a shot!
