I have recently installed two of the blue Series canopy modules and paired them with the blue 2in1 switches, however I am having issues related to changing the dimming mode from leading to trailing edge. I am able to change the dimming mode at the switch using the button tap commands but it does not seem to actually change the dimming mode at the fixture. I say this because I have one set of bulbs that is humming and they continue to hum regardless of what setting I configure the switch to be. I have the latest beta firmware installed on both the canopy module and the switch. According to the parameter list for the canopy module, it itself should have a parameter for changing between leading and trailing edge dimming but I do not see any such parameter when viewing it through zha.
I can’t help you on how to find it in ZHA, but you are correct that the canopy module has a Leading/Trailing parameter, P26. You will need to change that through your hub.
You can’t change that parameter using the Quick Tap sequences at the switch, because that changes the parameter for the switch itself, not the module. Since the switch has no load, that parameter is irrelevant on the switch.

Clusters: Choose the Light Cluster
id: 0x001a.
From there: check what value is there by doing a read: probably 0 or 1
Then change to opposite value.
Confirmed this is currently missing, I’ll be back next week and can put in a PR to update that. If you’re familiar with running a custom quirk thought, this is all it should need. Note the line in the VZM36.py file where you’ll need to update to the custom directory you’re using.

I have no such option on mine, see the attached screenshot. As far as I’m aware, we are running the same firmware which makes this even stronger.
I am not familiar with custom quirks; I’m still pretty wet behind the ears when it comes to home assistant. Am I correct in my understanding that I would save those two python files to a directory in my config folder and then change that one line in the 2nd file to reflect that directory? Or do I find the existing files and edit them?
I am pretty sure I am running the custom quirk, that is likely why I can see.
That makes sense. I got the custom quirk loaded and the option is now showing up but when i read the attribute it says “Bool.false”, and any attempt to write a new value hasn’t saved, whether its “Bool.true” or 1 or 0.
The original provided code made it so I was unable to abjust the boolean value for the leading_or_trailing_edge parameter. I decided to try changing the argument for t.Bool to t.uint8_t and restarted HA. After the reboot, I was finally able to change the value to 1. Upon doing so, the lights flickered for a sec (which is behavior I saw when changing this param by button taps on a separate 2in1 that controls a different light) , then the hum went away so I am going to assume that it worked. Hopefully nothing bursts in to flames.
Glad you got it figured out! I’ll check into the Bool vs uint8, I know in the VZM31SN it’s a Bool, so that would be something to get updated one way or the other if they changed it in the VZM36.
I think the issue is less the type of variable but more being able to change the parameter locally. With the 2in1, you similarly cannot change the Boolean value via home assistant, however, doing the tap command at the wall makes that value flip from bool.false to bool.true. With the canopy module, there’s no way that I know of that you can issue tap commands, but changing the type of variable it’s looking for allowed me to change it within HA.
Yeah, it’s possible it’s changed in firmware for the 2-1 as well, I know it used to be a Boolean, but unless it matches up between the quirk and firmware you’ll have issues changing it within HA as you experienced
