I’ve got a wall box with only 2 conductors- white and black. No ground.
Trying to figure out if I need a bypass.
Blue series, conductors are wired into line and load.
When breaker turned on, switch doesn’t turn on, but the fixture flickers on and off.
Wondering if I guessed wrong on which was line vs load, or if it is just that I need a bypass.
(I suspect the bypass, or checking the fixture and getting a larger bulb. I think it’s a CFL ring style bulb, but it’s a high ceiling, so trying options that don’t involve the ladder first )
The proper way to wire a switch is to determine which is the hot and which is the load BEFORE you install it. No one is going to tell you whether or not you need a bypass if you do not even know if the switch is wired correctly.
Use a meter or a non-contact voltage tester to ensure that you have the proper conductor connected to the Line terminal.
If you determine that you were wired correctly, then adding a bypass is the next step.
If you determine that you have the Line and Load reversed, correct it and see how it works. If it is still presenting the same issue, then try a bypass. Bear in mind it’s also possible that you damaged the switch by miswiring it.
