I keep going back and forth on this, so time to reach out.
Can I power a innovelli switch by another dumb switch in the same gang box, (just for power) and then bind it to my fan canopy controller?
More info: it’s a dumb switch that I rarely use that controls an outlet, so it could stay if needed or be replaced by the smart switch (which would be my preference) but it wouldn’t control the outlet, just be powered by the wiring, and then I’d bind it to the fan/light canopy controller to control only that.
Hopefully that makes sense! I haven’t pulled wires to see what’s behind this switch yet, but I’m assuming there wouldn’t be a neutral with this type of wiring. Feel like I read that somewhere.
If you are only using it as a “smart controller” and not running a load through it, you can absolutely connect the switch to a different circuit than the canopy module.
As you would be replacing a switch connected to an outlet, you should wire it up to completely bypass the switch so the switched half of the outlet would be hot all the time. Also, you want to make sure there is a neutral available, and that neutral is for the circuit you are attaching it to.
EDIT: As I can’t add a reply as the topic is now closed, I am referring to the neutral that belongs to the circuit powering the switch, whichever circuit that may be.
Hum, the neutral to the fan could be a challenge. the ceiling fan is not wired for any switch at all, just power from the ceiling and pull chains (previously, now Home Assistant with the innovelli fan controller).

edit: I reread your message again. maybe you just meant any neutral, not necessarily the fans neutral?
