Can the red series 2-1 control a ceiling fan?

Hello! I recently purchased some switches and my previous understanding was that the new red series 2-1 can not control a ceiling fan and that my best option was to buy a regular dumb switch. Is this still the case?

The 2-1 is not rated for fans. They do have an upcoming fan switch first to zigbee and then zwave
