I was working to replace both of these switches with inovelli blues. I noticed there’s only one line coming into this two gang box. The switch on the right was connected to the switch on the left to share the line.
Is this…okay to do ? How do I do it with inovelli? Can I just connect it to the line screw of the second switch ?
It is pretty typical from what I have seen for the line (white) wire to be shared between multiple devices.
I have seen situations where they are all connected (pig-tailed) together, and others where they are daisy chained from one that is pig-tailed to another switch. Seems to work well either way.
I like to add one solid wire to the white bundle wire nutted together and from there use a Wago to connect the supplied stranded white wires to each switch.
Almost all my boxes have one hot/line in and it is shared to all switches in the box (line, neutral and ground). I pigtail all of them with Wago lever nuts. Label each line as you work with them so the next sparky can easily figure out what you did. Some of my blues are just smart switches bound to a group/device so they only get fed the line for power. It all depends on your wiring setup. New construction is easier to do right. Remodeling a 1960s mess can be more of a challenge.
