I was trying to add a double tap and hold action for my Blue Series 2-1 switch… but I’m beginning to think it isn’t possible. Notably, if I click the up paddle twice, but hold it down on my second click, HA seems to show no ZHA events fired at all! This is regardless of if I have the double tap up feature enabled on the switch.
Since it seems the firmware on the switch is preventing this from working, is this a feature that’s being considered? It would be really convenient to change the colour temp of my lights this way (while just regular tap and hold continues to do brightness)
Just for clarity, the double-tap and hold events are different events. You should be able to double tap (or up to 5x tap the up/down/config buttons), or hold them and set automations off of those. I’m not actually certain how a single tap followed by a hold would be interpreted, but I would expect either 2x taps or 1x tap and then 1x hold.
Unfortunately (at least with ZHA) a single tap, swiftly followed by a hold (what I call a "double tap and hold) is interpreted as… nothing. No events are fired at all.
I have that kind of action on a few remotes around my house used to control other lights, and it’s a very convenient way to have two different “axes” which can be smoothly adjusted via hold actions.
Yeah I don’t see anything sent from the switch either. I’m guessing it’s looking for the button sequence and since that isn’t one, it just doesn’t send it.
If you haven’t already tried, I’d try your common preferences as a multi tap event, and/or could use holding the config button to cycle the color temp?
Yeah I ended up setting up a series of automations so that pressing the config button toggles between a “brightness mode” and a “colour temp mode”. Then in colour temp mode, I just turn on local protection and use automations to change the colour as the buttons are pressed. Works for now, but a bit less elegant than if double press and hold worked!
