Hey guys, I have a around 20 Inovelli switches in my new house (all VZM31-SN).
Now that I have some time off I’m trying to get them all connected and setup the way I want them with HA. I’ve honestly have been using them like dumb switches because the number of issues makes this whole setup a massive time sink. It hasn’t been smooth but I now have 6 of them doing what I want.
The 7th has been giving me a lot of grief:
I switched it to “smart bulb mode” and bound it with a group like I’ve done with other switches and it just wouldn’t control the lights.
So I decided to reset it. I followed the instructions here, the reset appears to work (red light after 20 sec then blink when I release) but then, the device just won’t re-connect with HA.
The device gets detected but the interview never finishes and it appears in ZHA as unk_model by unk_manufacturer.
The switch doesn’t actually reset. The switch’s relay is OFF and factory default is most definitely ON. Smart bulb mode is preserved and, It is now bound to the lights (it started to work after the reset) and I can’t unbind it even if I go to the unknown device and unbind everything.
Anyways I’m very confused, is there a “harder” reset function somewhere?
I had not restarted HA… Thank you for the suggestion this may have helped since this is the main difference from what I tried yesterday!
I ended up throwing the kitchen sink at the problem and the latest reset worked, here is what I did:
Restarted HA
Clicked “Reconfigure” on the Unknown device in ZHA
Removed the device from ZHA using the option on the device. At this point, this seemed to have re-enabled the relay on the switch so something worked differently.
Proceeded to a Factory reset on the switch
Air gapped the switch
Re-tried pairing and it worked
I hope this helps someone in the future. Thank you again for the suggestion!
I would try another factory reset (or 2). Some of the things you describe suggest it’s not back to the factory defaults. You shouldn’t be in the SBM, and there should be no binding configuration after a factory reset.
If you successfully did the top paddle + config hold until red and got three red flashes after release, that is the proper factory reset. With that reset, everything should be back to factory fresh.
Thanks Bry, I posted a detailed sequence right before your response.
Excluding the “unknown device” from ZHA first and doing a HA restart before doing the Reset seemed to have done something somehow. I’d have expected the factory reset to overwrite everything else but it didn’t. I did try something like 3 resets yesterday and got the 3 red flashes every-time but it wasn’t restoring the default behavior.
No problem, Nicholas, happy to hear it helped to restart HA! if you wouldn’t mind, would you mark post as solved to help my status on this community. thanks!
