Fan switch w/ kitchen range hood?

Hi,

I have a few of the Inovelli White Fan Switches which I’ve used with our “dumb” ceiling fans and they’ve been nothing short of magical. I absolutely love them.

I’ve been looking for a range hood fan that’s controlled by smart app or a remote, etc (something remote/accessible) and there are very few options - even fewer that can be used as recirculating (rather that vented outside) which our setup (sadly) requires.

This got me to wondering, since Inovelli can be used with AC fans, and I read that they can be used with exhaust fans, is there any reason that it couldn’t be used with a range hood fan? If it can, what type of fan would I need to look for to be sure that it work effectively? Obviously, AC power is a must (instead of DC), but what else? Mechanical switch to control it? Would any other type of switch or control also work?

Any info/ideas would be super helpful. Thanks so much in advance!

The fan needs to fall within the specifications of the fan switches capabilities as outlined below. Keep in mind that the fan switches are not designed for a lighting load so if you were to wire the range hood direct to the switch that may cause issues as it would be installed outside of the designed intent.

Tech Specs

  • Power: 120V AC, 60Hz
  • Signal (Frequency): 2.4GHz
  • Operating Temperature Range: 32-95° F (0-35° C)
  • Maximum Load (Amps): 2.5 Amps (No more than 2 fans on the switch)
  • Range: Up to 100 meters line of sight between the Wireless Controller (HUB) and the closest Zigbee Module
  • Dimensions: Depth = 1.2" (3.0cm), Height = 2.8" (7.1cm), Width = 1.6" (4.1cm)
  • ETL Certified: 5027290
  • FCC Certified: 2BBTA-VTM35SN

@Lance_Inovelli, thanks so much for taking the time to respond and for including the specifics that I’d need to check on for the range hood. I really appreciate your help.

One additional question, given that most of the range hoods do have some sort of lighting installed - and I understand that is beyond the scope of what the fan switch is designed to do, am I correct that I could also install the fan & light canopy module to split out the light control from the fan control?

If this would work, would I also need a separate Inovelli light switch for the lights, in addition to the one for the fan? Or does the canopy module that splits the lights from the fan also give light control?

Thanks again for your help with this. I really appreciate it.

theoretically I do not see any reason that would not work. But you would have to be sure each falls within the specs. You may want to consider using a relay (Matter, Zigbee, or Z-Wave) and then use automations to control each.
