Help with smart fan & fan switch

Hello. I have a BAF Haiku ceiling fan (which I believe has a DC motor). It’s connected to a simple on/off toggle switch.

I want to get it in my HA so I can control it. I have the BAF integration in HA and it works great, but it becomes unavailable when the wall switch kills the power.

Is it possible to get the Blue Series Smart Fan Switch and put it into a mode similar to “smart bulb” mode where it doesn’t cut the power off to the fan? And then I can program the paddles via scenes to turn on/off the fan via the BAF integration in HA?

I thought I’d check since (from my understanding) the Smart Fan Switch interacts directly with the fan’s controls. Whereas I just need something that won’t kill the power to it & then use the BAF integration.

Thanks!

What is the wiring situation at the switch box? Ie does the power originate at the switch box via a 2-wire and then go to the fan as a separate 2 or 3-wire?

I’m not 100%. The wiring appeared to be no different than other switches so I tried connecting a Zooz smart light switch to it (line, load, ground and neutral) and that works to turn the fan on/off. But the Zooz switch doesn’t have the ability to not kill the power.

I can certainly send pics when I get home if needed

Yep, since you don’t know, pics of the box with the switch pulled out so you can see into the box would be helpful.

Not sure what zooz switch you have. But I believe all of the 700/800 series switches have a “disable relay” option which would do what you would like. For the inovellis, the scenario you described is essentially what smart bulb mode is also. It diables the relay that cuts power so that what’s hooked up to the light switch has constant power. Or optionally, never sends out power depending on how you choose to approach the situation.

The OP can’t use the Smart Fan Mode or Smart Bulb Mode (depending on which switch he was contemplating), because he/she has a DC fan.

That’s why he is going to provide a pic of his switch box so we can potentially recommend a relay solution.
