Inovelli Dimmer Installation (previously light switch was not dimmable)

Hi, I’ve got VZM32-SN (blue wave mmWave presence dimmer switch) That I’m trying to do an installation on, replacing regular light switch (not dimmable). My light fixture seems to show that

  1. It’s dimmable
  2. It’s 25 watt load

But the switch is a non neutral setup at the light switch, just 2 wires, I’m assuming hot load. Right when I test the switch temporarily while un-mounted, the light goes through an on/off cycle. I would think this isn’t stereotypical flickering but rather, seems to actually fully turns on and then off automatically. Reading up on my setup, it would appear to mean that I would need to install a bypass on my light fixture. What I’m confused about by this, is that also from what I’ve been reading online that the bypass is typically needed by light fixtures less than 25w, which my light fixture is above.

Thoughts? Do I need a bypass on my light fixture? Am I missing something? I’ve wired my inovelli switch since it’s a non neutral setup with line and load wired up.

More than likely, yes. Some require more than one.

The 25W requirement you mentioned is a dated guideline (at best) going back to the Gen 2s. The only real test is to install a bypass and observe the results. Additionally, the mmWave draws more than other switches because of its sensor.

Also, make sure that you have tested the two conductors in the switch box so that you are certain which is the hot, so that you are landing the proper conductor on the Line terminal. A non-contact voltage tester is fine for this purpose.

Any chance you got a handy wire diagram I should reference for the bypass? Do I need to wire the bypass across the line and neutral on the light? Was going to pickup the aoetec bypass

Yep, in parallel at the light. At the light, one conductor from the bypass to the hot and the other to the neutral.

The Aeotec bypass is fine.
