I am located in Colorado. Trying to install 2 3 way inovelli smart blue switches to toggle the same light. My house was built in 2018, and I am unsure of how this circuit is wired.
Wires at the box, I have a ground, neutral, and 2 black wires at both switch boxes. I am trying to follow a diagram that applies to my configuration, but I can’t seem to find one I can follow.
Obviously the black wires on load wires, but there is no markings on either black that differentiate them. It’s possible I might have to hire an electrician, but thought I’d reach out to anyone on here with insight?
To be able to help at all we need pictures of both boxes showing the wires going to the existing switches and also the wires leaving the boxes so that it is (hopefully) possible to trace what goes where.
Right now these are working as a 3 way switch? If not what works what? Do you own (and have the skills to safely use) a multi-meter or non-contact voltage detector?
Is the light currently connected to a 3-way switch circuit?
If so, you can’t just replace both existing switches and expect to wire them in the same way the previous ones were… with 2 Inovelli dimmers (or on/off switches), the one in the box containing the load wire will be connected as a single pole switch, and the other will just be connected with a line and neutral (no load, no travelers). You will then need to bind them together using whatever smart home platform you are using (best case scenario), or set up an automation for the no load switch to control the main switch.
If you want actual “physical” 3-way control without messing around with binding or setting up automations, you will want either a dimmer and aux switch, or use one of the existing dumb switches along with the dimmer.
