Is the White Series firmware updated automatically?

I plan to connect the white series through homekit. I am wondering how does the firmware upgrade works? Is it automatic? If not can it be done from the Apple Home app or I need to go to some other app? Are there notifications for firmware upgrade?

Thanks

It will be from HomeKit. Typically set to automatic. It’s in the 3 dots top right corner > home settings > software updates about mid page. When an update is pushed after matter certification, it will show up there.

Sounds great, could you explain what do you mean “after matter certification”? Thanks

Updates have to be submitted for certification with matter board. Once evaluated and approved, they get pushed to devices.
I don’t know the exact detail of the process but all matter devices updates have to be approved to be matter compliant

I don’t know what the Matter certification process costs for updates, but in the past many Red Series updates were distributed as “beta” firmware because the Z-Wave re-certification cost was too costly for a small company like Inovelli to do several times per product. Just saying that there may be several “betas” before the next official certified release if there is a similar cost involved…

Talking to Eric, they’re currently working on getting 1.0.5 certified to help rectify some of the issues with some switches dropping offline and never coming back, and few optimizations with signal strength. It is available via beta like you said but for the rest of everyone, that’s the stable release that will get pushed soon.
