I just installed my blue canopy module and adopted it into my ZigBee network in Home Assistant (ZHA). The fan works correctly, but the light does not turn on. I checked all of the parameters to make sure they were at default just in case there was some configuration issue.
One strange behavior I noticed is that while updating the firmware, the light definitely turned on and was throbbing while the update was flashed. Is there anywhere else I should be looking?
Does the canopy module have to be bound to a switch? I was under the impression that I could control the fan / light separately via a bridge without the need for a physical switch.
You can control it independently. @Bry is trying to gather more information about your physical setup so we can assess where the problem is. One common problem we see is that people have the canopy module powered from the load end of a smart switch and without binding, it physically cuts the power to the canopy.
Got it. Usually it’s a switch/module issue, so I think I sent us down a rabbit hole . . .
So you have a module powered full time, joined to HA/ZHA, fan control works, but you don’t have control of the light. That fan comes with a wireless receiver and remote control. Did you remove that receiver, or at least wire around it (or not install it if this is a new installation)? The canopy module needs to be wired directly to the fan and lights with no module in between.
Yep, it came with a canopy controller with remote, but I never wired it in. The module is wired directly to the lights and fan motor.
As I mentioned, it was able to pulse the light when doing the firmware update, so it feels like a software issue to me. Totally get trying to work out the wiring situation though.
