In my home I have a multi-way (3-way) utilizing two White smart switches with neutral and 120V going to each, with multiple matter border routers utilizing Apple Homekit.
What is the correct local configuration settings to this setup? I THINK we are expected to disable local control and use multi-tap scene control to synchronize the switches, is that correct? I see the wiring for this setup described in the documentation, but I cannot find any information on how to configure the switches to allow them to be synchronized.
So in this 3-way, the switch that is wired to the load is the load switch and the other is what I’ll call the secondary switch, so as not to confuse it with an Aux.
Whether or not you disable local control depends upon the load. If it’s a smart bulb, then put the load switch in the Smart Bulb Mode (where local control is disabled).
But if the load is not a smart bulb, then treat the load switch like you would any 2-way. You don’t want to disable local control here because you want the switch paddle to be able to control the wired load.
For automations, you’ll program the secondary switch’s multi-taps to turn the load switch on or off, or set a dim level. If you want the secondary switch’s LED bar to indicate the load switch’s status, then you’ll program automations for that as well.
Since you can’t sync these by binding presently, others here may have some thoughts about automations to accomplish syncing for the secondary switch.
