Hey everyone,
I REALLY need some help with this. We have been living in our new house for well over 6 months now without any 3 way switches working, and my wife is ready to rip out all the Inovelli switches.
My problem is that I can only pair 32 devices directly to my Sonoff Zigbee 3.0 USB dongle.
But, it says I can pair unlimited if I pair through devices which are paired to the Sonoff. (At least that’s how I read it.)
Has anyone else experienced this?
How do I FORCE an Inovelli Blue to pair THROUGH another Inovelli Blue device?
(I’m using Home Assistant)
I have another post similar to this, but no response here:
I’m almost about ready to blow away my entire installation and start from scratch.
And if that doesn’t work, just buy a second Sonoff dongle.
Current Firmware on all my switches is:
0x0102020f
(Showing Latest is: 0x01020212)
ZHA
I think the issue is that my Sonoff will only allow 32 direct zigbee devices…
So, I don’t think zigbee2mqtt would help. (may be wrong though.)
Currently there are 45 devices paired which is 13 more than the spec’d number for the Sonoff.
I tried pairing a new device through a different device, but that didn’t work very well. I’m wondering if it’s because I’m already so far “over the limit”.
How do I unpair and then re-pair devices through a different zigbee device? Will that even help?
These are the questions I’m wrestling with…
The 32 devices is just the number that can be directly talking to the stick. You can definitely go over that by adding devices that are routers which handle having devices connected to them and then route that traffic to the stick. That is basically how Zigbee builds a big mesh network. It should work fine unless you’ve added all battery powered devices which won’t work as routers first or something else that doesn’t route properly is taking up the 32 direct connections.
Update the connected switches firmware then add more devices. Update those as you add them. Start with the devices closest to the stick and work out from there.
PJF, thank you. I have ONLY Inovelli smart switches on my Zigbee network right now (which, as I understand all act as routers).
(And the network is obviously not working correctly)
Are you saying that my current firmware has a known issue that could be causing all 45 devices to try to route directly to the Sonoff even when it already has 32 devices routing to it?
When I go to add a device in Home Assistant, do I need to SPECIFICALLY tell it to route through a different device?
If so, I will need to force remove 15+ devices and then re-add them to the zigbee network with HomeAssistant. Or just burn the whole thing down and start from scratch…
From what I understand you don’t have to force a specific router but you can, at least in zigbee2MQTT you can. I also believe the devices will re-route through the best router but I’m not positive about that.
