In my kitchen I installed an Inovelli LZW31-SN switch controlling the overhead light. In the same box there is also an outlet. The switch is in a non neutral setup.
My question is whether I can safely plug in and operate a convection oven if I plug it into the outlet next to the inovelli switch? Oven has the following stats: 120V, 60Hz, 1800W. I haven’t plugged anything in, I just had a little nagging thought in the back of my mind that I should probably check before operating. The switch would not be controlling the oven in any way, but the outlet shares the same load wire I believe.
I can move the oven to a different outlet in my kitchen if I must, but unfortunately this outlet is hands down the best option for me to use. But at the same time, I’d rather not burn my house down just to save myself some time rearranging my kitchen haha
Here’s a pic in case I explained everything very stupidly… Thanks in advance!
Out of curiosity, are the outlet and the lights on separate circuits? If they’re both on the same circuit (not uncommon in older builds), you could tap into the neutral in that box for the switch – IMO, using a neutral (when available) with a smart switch is always better than not.
But if they’re on seperate circuits and there’s no switch neutral in the box, then you did the right thing by setting it up in a non-neutral config.
Good deal, thank you! And correct, the switch has no control over the outlet. I just wanted to go with better safe than sorry, and I appreciate the reassurance!
Also @hydro311 thanks for the idea! I’ll look back into that, because yes 100% better to use neutral when possible. They should be on the same circuit (will double check before anything of course) and when I get the fire in my belly I’ll try to rig that up!
It might be the line wire, I was kind of going off of memory from when I installed the switch 5 years ago. I’ll take the faceplate off and double check before doing anything. I would love to set it up as a neutral install if possible.
