Red 2-1 Installation Issue - VZW31-SN

Hello

I am new to this community and I am replying on this thread since the wiring for my red switch is similar as here. I am planning to change bunch of 3-way switches to Inovelli on one side but keep one of the dumb switches as is on the other side. I followed the instructions and have wired up the switch connecting the traveller, load, line and neutral. I tried to change parameter 22 in HA to Multiway switch with dumb toggle. However if I do that, and I try to turn off the light from the smart switch side the relay keeps clicking. If I change parameter 22 to “single pole” I can turn off and on the light fine from the smart switch side, but then if I turn off the light from the dumb switch then the smart switch will turn off completely.

I searched and there was a suggestion that continuously clicking relay indicates an improper neutral wiring but ai checked the wiring a few times and can’t figure out what is wrong at this point

Could anyone help out root causing the problem please?

I moved this to a new topic as I suspect that the topic you posted in was for an older generation switch that does not share the same parameters. Based on your post, I think you are referring to the Red Gen 3 Dimmer, VZW31-SN. Please confirm that is the switch you are trying to install.

When you say that when you operated the dumb switch and the smart switch “turned off completely”, do you mean the Inovelli lost power? In other words, did the switch’s LED bar turn off?

If that is the case, that usually means improper wiring. This can happen when you have a line in one box and a load in the other. Is that your wiring topology?

Yes you are right. I had a wrong assumption about what box is getting the line vs load. I did a continuity test and realized I have line and load in separate boxes and line is in the box where I originally had the dumb switch. I had to switch the smart switch with the dumb one eventually but things are working as expected now.

Thank you for the quick response and also for creating the community forum for DIYers like me who are learning from more experienced users Q&A

For the record I have the 2-1 VZW31 dimmer red switch

Glad you got it going. It’s always best to test first so that you fully understand your topology instead of making assumptions about what you have.
