Red Dimmer VZW31-SN documentation polish

I sought out Inovelli switches because of the high regard they have been spoken of throughout the smarthome community. And this has mostly been borne out.

However, there’s the last 5% of work that it seems remains to be done for the Red Smart Dimmer, VZW31-SN, across a few different areas.

  1. The product page has some incorrect certification numbers or links.
  • The UL cert is correct.
  • The FCC cert is obviously for the Blue Smart Dimmer.
  • The IC cert is obviously for the Blue Smart Dimmer.
  • The Z-Wave cert is correct, but the link doesn’t work.
  1. The VZW31-SN Parameters page is 5 months out of date. I noticed a parameter number 120 in my Home Assistant for the switch. “Single-Tap Behavior” plus 3 non-descriptive numbers made no sense to me, so I went to the parameters page to find out more. However, it’s not there.

    The parameter was added back in May in feat(config): update Inovelli VZW31-SN to FW 1.04 (#7731) · zwave-js/zwave-js@1abf143 · GitHub

    There are also a few other parameters, like 130 - 134, which have been around long enough to have changed names, but are still not on the parameters page.

  2. Leading / trailing edge dimming. I’m sure you’re sick of hearing about this, but I would like to point out that there are no instructions in the online manual on how to change it or where to go to change it (come to find out it’s the button combo page).

    I bought the Inovelli switch especially because the main product page listed both types of dimming, yet the feature is hidden. I understand why you don’t want this easily changeable, but at least provide a huge red flashing warning in the main manual, then link to the procedure. I gave up on the feature until I was putting together some recovery documentation and happened upon it.

@KlfJoat, thank you for bringing this to our attention. It can be difficult to to catch all of this and we try but as you found it is sometimes missed.

I have updated the items below:

  • The FCC cert is obviously for the Blue Smart Dimmer.

    Added the FCC number and link for the Red Series VZW31-SN

  • The IC cert is obviously for the Blue Smart Dimmer.

    Added the IC number and link for the Red Series VZW31-SN

  • The Z-Wave cert is correct, but the link doesn’t work.

    Updated the link for the Z-Wave Certification

  • Parameter 120

    Parameter 120 - Single-Tap Behavior

    This parameter allows you to customize what happens when you single-tap the switch. It’s especially useful if you want to decouple the physical paddle from the load or use it purely as a scene controller

    Range, Default, Size & Firmware Version Implemented

    Range: 0-2

    0 = Default: Controls the load directly

    1 = Scene control only (no load control)

    2= Smart Bulb Mode (no load control, sends Z-Wave commands)

    Default: 0

    Size (Bytes): 1

    Firmware Version Implemented: 1.04

Parameters 130-134 are for fan control (sorry ref’d older data). The below is direct from the current driver/device handler. If I am correct parameters across all of our products have been standardized as much as can be. I am verifying this and this would explain why it’s not included in the parameter list in our KB.

parameter130 : [
name: “Fan Control Mode”,
description: “Which mode to use when binding EP3 to a fan module (Firmware 2.17+)”,
range: [“0”:“Disabled (default)”,“1”:“Multi Tap”, “2”:“Cycle”],
default: 0,
size: 8,
type: “enum”
],
parameter131 : [
name: “Low Level For Fan Control Mode”,
description: “Level to send to device bound to EP3 when set to low (Firmware 2.17+)”,
range: “0..100”,
default: 33,
size: 8,
type: “number”
],
parameter132 : [
name: “Medium Level For Fan Control Mode”,
description: “Level to send to device bound to EP3 when set to medium (Firmware 2.17+)”,
range: “0..100”,
default: 66,
size: 8,
type: “number”
],
parameter133 : [
name: “High Level For Fan Control Mode”,
description: “Level to send to device bound to EP3 when set to high (Firmware 2.17+)”,
range: “0..100”,
default: 100,
size: 8,
type: “number”
],
parameter134 : [
name: “LED Color For Fan Control Mode”,
description: “LED color used to display fan control mode (Firmware 2.17+)”,
range: “0..255”,
default: 212,
size: 8,
type: “number”
],

I have not added these (P130-134) to the table I confirm that @Eric_Inovelli or @EricM_Inovelli will want them included here.
