I’ve replaced a few switches already but they weren’t in three way. At the rocker switch I’ve determined which red and black wire are the travelers. (red one sets off the voltage tester).
At the dimmer switch, the red white is a travler and I believe the red one is also a traveler. However both the red and black wire set off the voltage tester.
I believe what I need to do is cap off the red and white traveler at the dimmer and the red at the rocker, but not sure which to use as the line and load wire at the dimmer switch.
I have uploaded a diagram of how I believe it is setup and a picure of both boxes.
So from the diagram you posted and what I can see in your boxes, that is a line and load in separate boxes. The line comes in the box with the Lutrons, goes to the single gang box via a 3-wire and then goes up to the light.
The Inovelli wiring diagram is posted below.
Your line in the Lutron box is going to be the black bundle under the tan wire nut. You’ll have to pigtail a black to that bundle for the Inovelli. You’ll also have to pigtail a white to the neutral bundle in the back of the box for the Inovelli. Same thing for the ground . . pigtail a bare copper for the Inovelli.
You’ll have to identify the 3-wire connected to the Lutron you’re replacing. Leave the white bundled to the others as is. That’s the neutral going to the other box. Connect the black of the 3-wire to the Inovelli load and the red of the 3-wire to the Inovelli traveler.
I’m not sure what you are thinking of when you say you’re going to cap off wires. With a dumb switch, they are all used. Leave the dumb switch wiring as is . . no changes needed.
Don’t forget to reset the switch type on the Inovelli.
