UPDATE: I ended up doing a factory reset. I didn’t see endpoint 1 after doing that but I was able to bind the light group to the OnOff and LevelControl to endpoint 2 for both options and that seems to work. Now I just have to figure out how to change the parameters so I can have things like double tap to turn on at max brightness, etc.
I’ve installed my first Zigbee dimmer and I am struggling to understand exactly how binding and unbinding works.
I am using Hue White and Color bulbs. I created a group in ZHA of three Hue bulbs.,
When I first set the set up the switch I followed the instructions in “Setting Up Zigbee Bindings • Home Assistant - ZHA” and everything mostly worked. I think I checked OnOff binding (and I pretty sure I checked the endpoint 1) rather than LevelControl. The switch worked, but the on and off changes were instant. I went back and checked the LevelControl and that provided a nicer (slower) transition between on and off.
I then added two more Hue bulbs to the group. The bulbs didn’t respond to the switch, so I did the binding operation again. I could no longer see the endpoint option, so I ended up binding the OnOff and LevelControl endpoints 2 and 3. This had the effect of creating the slower transition between on and off for the two new bulbs, but the old bulbs now changed instantly between on and off) and vice versa.
I unbound the group (or at least I think I did) by selecting the OnOff and LevelControl endpoints 2 and 3 and hitting Unbind. I then deleted the group and recreated it, using a different name. Before I bound that new group, I tried the switch again and the old bulbs still responded (the two new bulbs did not). I tried reconfiguring the switch, but that didn’t change the behavior. I then tried to bind the new group (containing all five bulbs) but that didn’t change anything either. I only have the first three bulbs responding to button presses.
Clearly, I’ve messed something up with the binding. How do I reset the binding and start over?
