Testing White Canopy Module with Honeywell Remote Only Fan

I am trying to install an Inovelli White Canopy module. I have a one gang light switch with no travel wire. My fan is a Honeywell Neyo 52in model 51803 (no pull chain, controlled by remote only).

I installed the edge drivers for Smartthings and paired the device. The device blinked green and then turned solid blue. The devices show up in Smartthings as two separate devices (light and fan). However, I am unable to control the light or the fan in Smartthings. I also tried to do a factory reset without any luck. I contacted support and they suggested I setup a bench test. The instructions were somewhat confusing and vague. Does this look correct wiring wise?

A quick search says the fan is AC, so assuming that is correct you have a chance to make it work.

As best as I can tell the wiring looks OK… however I would start with the blue wire (the light) and try that. I would not try connecting the bulb to the fan connection (red wire).

Whether you can make the fan part work is dependent on how the existing remote is wired since you would need to retain a capacitor across the fan wiring for the fan to work with the canopy.

Frankly it’s a lot easier to start with a pull chain fan since that does not require any serious effort to make it go.

Thanks! Gave the test bench a try and it works. Guess my fan isn’t compatible with canopy units. I will have to do an rma return.

For anyone with a similar problem, I did find a workaround. I was able to use the white matter dimmer and provide constant power to the light and fan. I am now using the dimmer as a scene controller in conjunction with my bond fan and light controller. Not perfect and not as fast as the| canopy but it beats buying and installing 4 new fans…

Not necessarily. Do you have the doc that came with the fan that shows what model the remote receiver is? Is it a Honeywell Smart Universal Ceiling Fan Remote (Model 43309)? Honeywell made a number of fans that were essentially an AC motor pull chain fan but without the pull chain with a 433 MHz or WifI canopy unit (like the one I mentioned above). If so it is possible to replace that canopy unit with the Inovelli canopy unit but we would need more info than we have. I do not however have any doc for this specific fan.

This is the original controller that came with the fan. Model number RM76A.

OK… That looks like it should work though wire colors will not line up exactly. Can you verify that the unit you have is wired like this? Also confirm the color of the wire connecting to the black wire coming out of the RM76A (going towards the fan).

Yes, that is how it was originally wired with the original receive. When I wired it together with the Inovelli canopy, I plugged the blue wire (fan) with the blue wire (Inovelli) and black wire (fan) with the red wire (Inovelli). I also capped of the white wire with a wing nut.

Your statement is a little ambiguous… did you mean you attached it to the white in the box that the canopy module is also connected to under that wire nut? or capped it off without connecting it to anything?

I meant to say I capped off the white wire (one coming from the fan labeled COMM) without connecting it to anything.

You need to attach the fan/light neutral to the same neutral wires as the canopy module.

How did I miss this? Thank you so much. It works now! Saves me from having to return it.

All the whites must be connected together.

Thanks again. That was the missing link that fixed it. I had to connect the white comm wire coming from the fan with the other two white wires.
