Three Way Dummy Switch

Hello! I’m preping to install our new White Series switches. Several of the places we plan to install them are three ways. I had been hoping to use some of our existing dumb switches as the secondary switches in the three way, but I’ve noticed that some of the switches I’d like to leave as is are the first switch in the series. Is there any way I can do this using an existing switch or would I have to get the Inovelli Aux Dummy switches?

Essentially I’d like something like this:

, but with a regular three way switch instead of the Inovelli Aux switch.

Thanks!

If you have Romex, that will not work because flip flopping the Inovelli and dumb would require four conductors between the switches. If you have Romex, you only have three, ground excluded.

One of the other hand, if you have THHN in conduit and can run another conductor between the switches, you should be able to accomplish what you’re asking.

Thanks for the quick response, Bryan. Unfortunately I only have Romex, so I suspect I’d have to go the Aux route.

Would something like this:

still work for the switches where the would be Inovelli switch is first in series?

Yes, that is the proper wiring for line at one box, load in the other.
