What do you do if you’ve pressed the config button 8x times and are unable to change local control? I’ve also attempted to hold down the config button for 20, 40, 60+ seconds and unable to get a factory reset to happen.
Long story is I updated the firmware in homeassistant to 1.57, lost the ability for the button to send scene commands when pressing up/down/config to control my smart bulb. At first thought it was my blueprint, but then configured actions directly from the scene 001, 002, 003 and was still unable to get them to pass through to HA. All I would see is “[Node 027] command was received at a lower security level than expected - disc”
So I changed to unprotected state, and excluded it from HA in hopes that a re-inclusion would fix it.
I am now stuck and unable to factory reset, unable to cycle through the protected states with 8x pushes. I can confirm that local control does not indeed work.
Is there another way to factory reset or another way to enable local control?
I cannot put it into inclusion mode with 3x presses of the config button. It was a forced exclusion in the hub, so it likely thinks it is still paired.
If you did a global exclusion it’s probably unpaired, and if my memory serves me correctly, that should also have factory reset it. I think that’s part of the Z-Wave spec. But if it’s factory reset you ought to be able to manually factory reset it again or include it with a 3x config push. I’m wondering if your firmware update got borked.
How would one do something like that? Is there a wiring diagram or something that describes how this would be done? Which pins would need to be used to reflash?
@Bry@ryanmagin I would have to reach out to our engineer to see if the pinout and process is the same for the Red as it is with the Blue Series but here is the process for the blue. The Segger J-Link debuggers are expensive between $400 and $800.
@Bry I have reached out to see if the process is the same for gen 2 and 3, and red and blues.
Okay the info I got is there is no way to update any Gen 2 switches. We do not have the files for update them. But for the Gen 3 devices the process is identical down to pinout.
Try putting your zwave into exclusion mode and clicking the config button 3 times.
You could also try scanning the QRR code and putting the device into the provisioning list. Then, if it can be paired it will just pair by itself. I have all my devices in the provisioning list and if I do a factory reset or exclude one it immediately starts to pair again.
