Ok, I have another issue with the canopy module where I’m not certain if it’s just faulty or a bug in the firmware.
The issue that I am having is that whenever there is a power lost, it will lose it’s matter pairing. This is the third time it’s done this now.
Today there was a power outage for about 10 minutes when the power can’t back up my phone prompted me to add a matter device and after checking the HA Matter Server add-on, I saw that the canopy was listed as available.
It would be fine if I could just re add it but because I use a combo of matter binding and automations to get the dimmer and fan switch working the way I want, I have to factory reset all 3 each time this happens. That would really suck to have to do every time it rains hard enough to knock out the power.
Anyone have any insight as to why this is happening? Did I wire something wrong? Missing a config?
This has not been my experience. I have had one of my canopy modules since they first came out and I’ve paired it with HA exactly once. Power has been off multiple times when I’ve been working on other stuff and all of them have always recovered without me having to do anything.
I’m not aware of anything you can do with the module to make it dump its pairing that way (other than pushing on the pairing button).
I would raise a case with Inovelli and ask @Kaleb_Inovelli or one of the other guys to look into it.
Is the module paired with anything else other than HA? If it is you might want to pair it only with HA while this is investigated.
It’s paired with a dimmer and fan switch. But this is definitely not the first time this happened. The first time was when I replace a dumb switch with an inovelli aux switch. Cutting the breaker while wiring up the aux switch cause it too completely disconnect from HA.
I have a pixel 10 pro so whenever there is a matter device that can be paired it auto pops on my phone. That how I knew to check the matter server to see that the existing pairing was showing as offline.
The 2nd time it happened was when I replace a outlet on the same circuit with a Eve outlet… again cutting the power cause the pairing to pop back up on my phone… check the matter server again and it was offline again
That brings us to this weekend when the afternoon storm known out power for about 8 to 10 mins…
Again it probably be an issue once HA properly sort matter binding cause I can just repair… it’ll be annoying but right now I’ve gotta factory reset it in order to reset the binding which involves getting my ladder, that doesn’t work for me.
Let me try that question again. Is the canopy paired with more than one hub (Home Assistant, Google home, Apple Home, Hubitat etc.) via Matter or is it just paired with Home Assistant via Matter? If more than one Hub which did you pair with first?
I ended doing an RMA… but I was able to consistently reproduce the issue if you wanna try in the name of science to see if it was just a faulty module or a firmware issue.
I initially disconnected the power for like an hr before reconnecting it. Doing so, the module reconnected to HA without issue.
I then tried for 10 mins again no issue. But then I discounted it for about 30ish seconds and it did not come back online without a reset and bring repaired.
I did the same thing again, flipping the power on and off within a minute (I use the wago lever nut at the box so it’s quick and easy to cut power to the module), and it lost its pairing again.
And to make sure the issue wasn’t with the border router I was using with HA. I ended up pairing it directly to Google Home using my Nest Hub and followed the same step to reproduce.
I did notice in Google Home, that if I cut the power, the module doesn’t immediately show as being unavailable in GH, so if I toggle the power back on, off, on again while when it does goes to showing unavailable in GH, it doesn’t come back online after that.
Yea, if you wanna experiment to see if it was just a bad module…. Go for it.
I’ve power cycled canopy modules several times with varying length power cycles. I have never had a canopy loose it’s pairing with HA.
The differences I can see in configuration is I have no Google Home and no Android Phones. I have AppleTV/HomePod as OTBRs and Apple Home connected via HA’s Homekit Bridge (not paired using matter).
Another datapoint that I’ve noticed over the last few months of having 4 of the canopy modules is that when there’s a power blip/flicker, the modules will sometimes stop broadcasting mDNS updates. These modules are the ones that HA will typically see as offline. GH will sometimes still keep working, but even that recently (as of last couple weeks) has started to produce the same ‘offline’ behavior for the misbehaving modules. I’ve put all of these behind a paddle switch to easily reset for now, and can 100% reliably bring them back online by just doing a 3 second power cycle. Upon doing that, there’s a new mDNS packet broadcast by each, and everyone’s happy again.
You might be the first to identify this as associated with power flickering. Are you able to respond to the thread about the disconnects and ping the employees? Could be crucial info to getting a fix
