I have false interference in my office. Tonight we were all in the living room, (including the cat who I might have blamed otherwise for triggering it) and the light was going on and off and on and off every few minutes. After the 30 seconds the light went off. I can visualize this in home assistant.
This is even more interesting since the sensor fails to detect me if I’m in the office (9’ x 10’) but I’m close to the bookcase which is perpendicular to the wall with the door and the switch.
I could never stop the false detections on mine. I pull it out and went back to my motion detection switch. I could not determine what was causing the false detection. I have other detected mmwave devices that I use for in Home Assistant for presence detection and I never get a false detection. When I get a chance I will try again in a different room and see if I can get it to work correctly,.
I’ve noticed false detection intermittently too, mine is in a bathroom next to my office and most of the time it’s great, but sometimes the light will just come on for no reason and it will usually go on and off a few times in a row over the course of a few minutes. There aren’t any moving objects at play, and I have the detection zone tuned pretty tightly.
Doesn’t happen all the time though, most of the time it’s totally fine and I haven’t been able to identify any particular difference between when it happens and doesn’t.
I could never get the switch working correctly in my laundry room due to false detection. I am going to try to use my two switches in 2 different rooms. One is a small guest bathroom and the other is an office. I both will be set up as a simple On / OFF switch that will turn on when detection is made. What is the best way to stop false triggers? When I had it in my laundry room the lights would go on when I was not in the room.
I too had to disable presence detection due to too many false positives and no way troubleshoot.
I tried limiting the range of the sensor and reducing sensitivity. Could not find any settings that worked well.
So you could never get it working correctly? I really don’t understand the issue? I have dedicated mm senors (Sonoff) and I have zero issues. I us Home Assistant to turn on a light with present detection and off when clear. To me this seems like it should be similar with this switch with a built in sensor?
The software seems like it’s just not ready yet.
There’s an auto config flow that allegedly will set the range to limit/prevent false positives, but it’s inaccessible in ZHA due to the botch with the quirks. Custom quirks don’t add it back
When I get a false positive there’s only a record of what time it happened, but not where. So I have no way of knowing what might have caused it.
Hopefully the software will improve. Until then, I wouldn’t really recommend this switch.
