I realize a Fan Switch in “Smart Fan Mode” can control two Zigbee devices via the two bindable endpoints. However, let’s say I have a dumb fan wired to the VZM35’s load. And in addition, I have a Zigbee smart bulb wired to an unswitcged common line. Is it possible to configure the dimmer to control the fan speed via the config button while reserving the paddle for controlling the smart bulb via Zigbee binding?
This would be very economical for me as it would save me from having to purchase a canopy module or other Zigbee dimmer pack when I already have the only one I need in the Fan Switch itself.
I’m looking for the exact same thing, and was unable to think of a way to make it work reliably with the current firmware, although I didn’t exhaust every possibility.
As far as I remember, the most recent firmware introduced a second endpoint for both the VZM31 zigbee dimmer and VZM35 zigbee fan switch, so that they have one endpoint for lighting and one for fan control. The intention was to allow them to be bound to the canopy module, which also supports both endpoints.
It seems like what we’d need from a firmware perspective to make this work would be the ability to map the paddle and config button to either of the two endpoints. For the fan switch, the internal speed control would either always be on the fan endpoint, or be disabled, while for the dimmer switch, the internal dimmer would either always be on the lighting/LevelControl endpoint, or disabled.
I expect that using automations would be much less reliable and higher latency. I don’t think that’s what I want for the lights in my bedroom, and it’s definitely not what my spouse wants.
