Hi everyone. I have a Hunter ceiling fan (model 53366, Channing 54") which comes with a little black remote. I looked under the canopy by the ceiling and there is no blue or green module described on several posts as the remote receiver. The black colored remote has buttons to adjust 3 speeds - high/med/low and off.
After installing the VZM35, I turned the fan on through the switch and the fan was moving at high speed as expected. I went ahead and selected the ceiling fan mode to get the three speeds.
This is when I started to hear clicking - from OFF to LOW or MEDIUM, I would hear soft repetitive clicking from the fan. The blades would hardly move. When I switch it to HIGH, the clicking stops and the fan moves at the high speed. From there I can use the remote to go to medium/low.
First - what is this clicking noise?
Second, any suggestions on how I can control the fan in medium or low speeds from the VZM35? Due to the clicking, I went back to the exhaust mode on the VZM35 (Off/On).
There is 3-wire Romex - black (hot), white (neutral), and ground which goes between the switch box along the wall and to the fan.
No receiver. The black wire on the fan connects to the black Romex. White with white. Ground does not seem to be connected but probably shouldn’t be related to the clicking.
I found a PDF that looks similar to my setup with the only difference in that I do not have a light fixture at the bottom of the fan.
The fan was installed by someone else prior to me owning the home. The black remote that came with the fan works to control the speed (High / Med / Lo / Off). There must be some sort of receiver but it is not the green/blue ones normally seen on Hunter’s website. It is not underneat the canopy/within the ceiling bracket.
Connection to the switch: Standard Line / Load / Neutral (Black/Black/White). I also grounded the switch.
So if the remote controls the speed, then the receiver is installed in the fan. You have to remove or disconnect it so that you can wire the conductors from the switch directly to the motor. You can connect a fan speed control i.e. the Inovelli to a receiver module, which expects a constant 120V.
