When turning on VZM35 switch from HA, it always turns on at 75%, but when using the physical switch it turns on at 100%

I have wired a VZM35 to control a bathroom exhaust fan, and am controlling through Home Assistant using ZHA. I have it wired with neutral wire. I have the Output Mode set to On/Off.

When I physically turn the switch on, it powers the fan at 100% and all the blue LEDs light up as expected. However when I turn it on through HA, either using the dashboard on/off slider, or when it turns on via an automation, it always turns on at 75% power, and only 3/4 of the LEDs light up. I am assuming that since the Output Mode is set to On/Off it should always turn on at full power? Do I need to do something specific in my automations to get the power to turn on at 100%?

Thanks,

Allen

@allendemling you may want to verify that parameter 13 and 14 are set to what you want. A factory reset may also help.

parameter 13 fan speed local

parameter 14 fan speed remote

Both those parameters were set to 255 (Returns to state prior to being turned off). I set them to 254 so they would always turn on at high speed, and this did not work.

I did a factory reset and tested (still didn’t turn on at high speed), and then set parameters 13 & 14 back to 254 again, and still did not work.

I’m still having trouble getting this switch to just turn on at full speed when I have the Output Mode set to On/Off. Is it possible I have a faulty switch and need to send it back?

Is neutral being detected?

Yes, when I read parameter 21 (AC Power Type) the value is 1, Neutral Detected.

I kind of remember reading somewhere that some of these switches had issues with being in dimmer mode even though the Output Mode was set to On/Off, but I can’t find where I read that, and am not sure if that would be the issue here.

@allendemling can you do a factory reset and re-pair to HA? It should retain the info in HA but if there was something in the configuration that did not take correctly this should clear it. Bring the switch back to a known state.

Yes, I did try that and it still had the same behavior where any time I turn the switch on from HA it went to 75% instead on full power.
