So I set up with approach with 45710 Auxiliary/ Add-On Switch
I am facing two issue now. My firmware for dimmer is 1.11
My aux switch does not work correctly: at 1.05, only press of UP could be detected, while press of Down cannot be detected. I upgrade it to 1.11. Both Up and down cannot be detected.
I cannot find a light work with this switch. I have tried a dumb dimmable LED. It cannot completely turn off and will give me a buzz noise when it is at the max level. I tried a nanoleaf A19 at smart bulb mode. It barely work. The switch will go to reboot. I also tried a tapo wifi light. It works a little better but still easy to trigger reboot. all blub will flicker
I am curious that if I made anything wrong here?Ideally I want to have a smart bulb attached so I could use adaptive lighting. Thanks a lot for help.
So first, install the switch as a 2-way. Get that going and then install the Aux. That way you are not fighting with 2 issues at the same time.
Stage 1 - 2-way with Dumb Bulb
In the primary box, remove the red and black from the 3-wire going to the other box. Cap them off for now.
Factory reset the switch, so you’ll clear out any old settings. The switch should come back up configured as a 2-way.
For now, add a NON-SMART bulb to see if the switch works properly. Depending on the load, you may need to add a bypass at the light to ensure the switch remains powered.
Stage 2 - 2-way with Smart Bulb
Once the 2-way is working with a non-smart bulb, swap the smart bulb back in. You’ll need to put the switch in the Smart Bulb Mode. Refer to the quick tap article if need be. I don’t have any whites, so I can’t give you any help on setting parameters from the hub.
Smart bulbs and non-neutrals can be problematic. You may need multiple bypasses to get the switch to remain powered.
Stage 3 - Smart Bulb
Once everything is working as a 2-way, rewire adding the red and black from the 3-wire to the Inovelli. You’ll need to put the switch in the 3-way + Aux mode. Again, see the quick tap article.
The aux or the dumb switch is not going to have any bearing upon whether or not you use a smart bulb. When I said that smart bulbs with a non-neutral can be problematic, I meant that sometimes the switch does not get enough power to function properly. (That is what the bypass will help with.) That has nothing to do with the other switch that it is mated to.
btw. i am using a wago to link the line from lamp and to inovelli and aux switch. Should I directly put the line wire for aux to inovelli switch directly to make the aux work?
Doesn’t matter so long as the connections are sound. The two techniques that you described are electrically the same. That being said, it is cleaner to use both holes on the switch rather than adding a Wago and a pigtail.
